Chellaston is still considered a village although in reality it
is a suburb to the south of Derby, which is located in the East
Midlands of England. The village has grown considerably with many
new houses having been built over the past three decades. However,
the expansion actually started when the railway arrived in Chellaston
in 1873, but the village does seem to retain an independent character.
Chellaston is most famous for its alabaster and the remains of Chellaston's
pits can still be found.

| This web-site has been
created for three main purposes:-
1) to keep a
centralised and available list of the main amenities, clubs and
associations that exist within Chellaston. This will, hopefully,
encourage more people to join in with the existing social activities.
2) to provide a comprehensive list of businesses
in and around Chellaston. This should encourage more people to use
use local companies.
3) to provide a cheap and convenient way for people
to advertise whether it be events, sales, services, wanted or lost
& found. |

Chellaston History Group Request
Carol and Mick, with the Chellaston Oral History Project, hope to produce
another book in the next couple of years, focusing on Chellaston - Then
and Now, comparing occupations and experiences of Chellaston past and
present.
Any reminiscences of Chellaston during the 20th century would be of
interest.
Part of the book will hopefully be about evacuees during the Second
World War. We would like anyone with memories of being an evacuee in
Chellaston, or of people who accommodated the evacuees to get in touch
with us, please.
We are also always on the lookout for any photographs, mementoes, etc.
featuring Chellaston. Has anyone any they think we may be interested
in?
Please contact us on mandcappleby@talktalk.net or
chellastonhistorygroup@gmail.com
if you can help. Thank you.
